Since a tender age, Janani has shown immense interest in Indian Fine Arts and her favorite among them has
always been Bharatanatyam. She has learnt to dance in different styles: Tanjore, Pandanallur and Vazhuvur
respectively, which have helped her master the nuances in the particular styles and improve her knowledge and
skills in dance.
Janani’s initial training started at Shree Bharathalaya, Chennai under the guidance of Padmashri Prof. Sudharani
Raghupathy. This learning experience boosted her interest to move further in the dance form. Her present Guru is
Bharatha Kala Rathna Shri. A. Lakshman, one of the most sought-after Dance Gurus in Chennai, having ‘produced’
high caliber students.
She has performed for numerous causes and at various occasions such as Natyanjalis, charity events, theme-based
events and festivals from her childhood. It is noteworthy to mention that she was the opening performer for
numerous prestigious events such as the Indian International Film Festival of Queensland (IIFFOQ), in the
presence of Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan and Queensland Premier Annastascia Palasczuk. She has been
very lucky to have had the opportunity to perform on numerous prestigious venues such as the International
Labor Organization (ILO) Auditorium in Geneva, temples of thousands of years old, famous dance Sabhas, etc.
Janani has often been praised for her clean footwork, elegance and energetic dancing by distinguished Chief
Guests and Guests of Honor such as Shri. Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty, Shri. Sirgazhi Siva Chidambaram, Bombay
Sisters Smt. C. Saroja and C. Lalitha, Shri. Shiva Reddy Garu and so on. Today, Janani continues to perform widely
in India, Europe and Australia.
Janani believes that dance can be a bridge between cultures and communities. Through Bharatanatyam, she aims
to spread the message of unity and peace. Not only that but she also believes in performing for events that
contribute towards good causes. Moreover, dance is a form of prayer to Janani, which enhances physical, mental
and spiritual strength.
Janani is a Swiss national, who was raised in Geneva, Switzerland. Along with Bharatanatyam, She simultaneously
learnt the Veena and Carnatic music under distinguished Masters from childhood. It is noteworthy to mention that
she underwent rigorous training in Carnatic music under acclaimed vocalists Smt. C. Saroja and C. Lalitha,
famously known as Bombay Sisters. During that period, she won the Coimbatore District level competition for her
Carnatic renditions. She was bestowed with a gold medal for the achievement and featured in the media. She is a
proud disciple who continues to follow Bombay Sisters’ style of singing.
Although Janani has been fully involved in Fine Arts since a tender age, she has also been a bright intellectual who
excelled in her studies. After completing her Bachelors degree in International Relations in addition to an
undergraduate Diploma in French, she pursued dual Master degrees in both subjects. Further to completing them,
she moved to Australia to do her PhD. She is currently pursuing her Doctoral research in Brisbane.
Janani has also been very lucky to have studied various languages. Apart from her native tongue Tamil, she is
fluent in French, English and German languages. She is a recipient of the United Nations Language Proficiency title
for her proficiency in French and English. She has also learnt the basics of Russian, Spanish, Hindi and Arabic out
of interest.
Last but not the least, Janani’s professional background has also been quite illustrious. She has been very lucky to
have worked for several United Nations organizations such as the United Nations Capital Development Fund
(UNCDF) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), where she gained international exposure. She
has also worked for European and Indian television networks; namely for the European Broadcasting Union (EBU
or Eurovision) and Chennai’s Jaya TV network where she was an English News Anchor and Video Jockey (VJ).
